On Saturday, April 13th, 2019, Juan “Johnny” Garcia, loving husband and father of three children, passed away at the age of 74.
Johnny was born on December 7th, 1944 in Seguin, Texas to Concepcion and Luis. He married Alicia Hernandez and together raised two sons, Michael and Benton, and daughter Shelley. He was a proud Navy Corpsman and talented Concrete Mason who also went on to later in life received his CNA. He always had a passion to serve others and care for them.
Johnny was preceded in death by his father, Luis Garcia, and his mother, Concepcion Cabello. He married Alicia, the love of his life, in 1965, who survives him. Johnny is also survived by his three children, Michael Garcia, daughter in law Sheri two grandsons Justin and Jacob. His son Benton Garcia, daughter in law Jennifer. Daughter Shelley Bujnoch, son in law Jeffery, two granddaughters Paisley and Reese. His Sisters Mary Louise Gonzales, Sylvia Reyes, Nancy Arambula, Kathy Law, Judy Boyd and brother, Francisco Cabello. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who adored him.
Johnny had a heart for golfing, gardening, fishing and wood-working. His whole life he shared his passion with his children and family. He spent many years involved in the community sharing his talent of golf, tending to his vegetables and him checking his trout lines and sanding till wee hours of the night. His passions carried him through his 74 years.
He was known for his love for his Cowboys, Spurs, dry sense of humor, and his infectious smile behind his mustache, his off the wall story-telling and his kind, artistic and compassionate spirit. Johnny was a brave and strong man and fought till the end like a true champion. He was a lion with a kitten's heart.
The Celebration of Life for Johnny will be held at Palmer Mortuary on Wednesday April 17th, 2019. Viewing will begin 11:00 am and continue through 3:00 p.m. At 3:00 p.m. the Celebration will commence and will be followed by a reception at the Geronimo Community Center. An intimate family committal service is scheduled at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at a later date.
