Alfredo Castillo, Sr.

Alfredo R. Castillo Sr., age 89, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2019. He suffered a stroke December 5th, 2017 and experienced a difficult year of challenges. He made the best of this year with family and friends.
Alfred was born in Seguin, Texas, August 12, 1929. He spent his life in Seguin and married young to Sophia Machado Castillo, in May of 1947. He had a beautiful long marriage for sixty years ending in her death September 3rd, 2007. They were blessed with five children, Oralia Rayos (Richard), Alfred Castillo Jr. (Polly), Ruben Castillo, Esther Salinas (ex-husband, David), Gilbert Castillo (Lisa) with 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. He cherished all of them.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Manuel B. Castillo Sr. and Esther Rodriguez Castillo, as well as his three brothers, Manuel Castillo, Alejandro Castillo, Joe Castillo and sister, Mary Castillo.
He is survived by his brothers, Robert and Jesse Castillo.
Alfred was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother and godparent. Alfred was a hardworking man who worked for the City of Seguin for over 38 years. He was a long-time parishioner and usher of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where he served in Santo Nombre. He loved going to the coast with family to relax and fish. Alfred walked on the trails at Starcke park daily with friends. He enjoyed listening to conjunto music and was one heck of a dancer. He enjoyed going on cruises and was ready to set sail on April 2019 with family. Alfred left a quote to everyone he loved, "Thank you for all the help throughout this time. To my children and grandchildren…. thank you."
Visitation will be held at Palmer Mortuary Chapel on Sunday, January 13, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on January 14, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. James Cemetery.
