With deep sorrow and heartfelt remembrance, we honor the life of Amado Mendoza Gaitan Sr., who was born on September 13, 1945, in the close-knit community of Kyle, Texas, and peacefully passed away on June 9, 2026, in Seguin, Texas. Amado’s journey was one defined by unwavering dedication, vibrant culture, and a profound love for his family and heritage.
Amado was a pillar of strength and perseverance, carrying forward a rich legacy inherited from generations of hardworking Gaitan ancestors. For over three decades, he built and managed “Amado Gaitan Paving”, his very own asphalt business. With boundless pride and tireless effort, he nurtured this enterprise from its humble beginnings into a symbol of the Gaitan family’s commitment to honest labor and integrity. To know Amado was to witness a man who embraced the dignity of work with genuine passion and humility.
His life was beautifully intertwined with that of his beloved wife, Dominga Tobias Gaitan. Their love story began serenely in their youth, meeting at the tender age of fourteen and marrying at eighteen. Together they blossomed, raising a large, loving family that became the heart of Amado’s world. The echoes of their laughter still reverberate in the tales of their many road trips to Wimberly, Galveston, Corpus Christi, Fredericksburg, San Francisco, and their cherished visits to Las Vegas. These journeys, often long and full of adventure, were expressions of their joy and togetherness until time gently whispered its limits.
Amado’s spirit was warm and welcoming. He held deep joy in gathering loved ones and dear friends, inviting them to share meals filled with conversation and companionship where the bonds of friendship and family grew ever stronger. His favorite places, like Market Square in San Antonio and El Ranchito in Seguin, were places his soul felt most alive amidst the rhythms of Tejano music- a genre he adored, especially the melodies of Augustin “The Legend” Ramirez. Often, you’d find him strumming his guitar or accordion, weaving notes of nostalgia and love, a beautiful soundtrack that carried the essence of his heritage.
Among the many things Amado shared, one phrase captured his resilient outlook on life perfectly: “I’m still kicking but not too high.” It was a subtle reminder of his enduring spirit, even in the face of life’s challenges.
The loss of his cherished Dominga in 2025 left an unfillable void in his heart. In his final days, Amado’s yearning to reunite with her was palpable- a testament to a love that transcends time and space.
Amado Mendoza Gaitan Sr. leaves behind a loving family that will carry his memory forward with pride and tenderness. His children – Amado Jr., Gilbert, Linda, Dominga, Adam, Elizabeth, Daniel, Susie, Elvis, and Jayden- stand as living legacies of his strength and love. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will continue to cherish the stories and lessons he imparted. His siblings Felipe Gaitan of Fresno, California, and Lucia Gaitan of San Antonio, Texas, also remain part of the Gaitan lineage that Amado so diligently honored.
He was preceded in death by his soulmate Dominga Tobias Gaitan; his son, Augustin Gaitan; his devoted parents, Feliciano and Severiana Gaitan; along with numerous siblings, whose memories are woven into the fabric of his life’s story.
Today, we celebrate Amado Mendoza Gaitan Sr.- a man whose life was a mosaic of love, tradition, music, and hard work. May his soul find eternal peace, reunited with his beloved Dominga, beneath the expansive Texas sky they once called home. Con todo nuestro cariño y respeto, descanse en paz, Amado. You will forever live in the hearts of your familia y amigos.
