Barbara Kimmell Amis, of Seguin, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 26, 2017 at the age of 95. She was born in Harlingen, Texas on September 9, 1921 to Roy and Winifred Kimmell. She graduated from Brownsville Junior College, where she excelled in her bookkeeping classes, learned to use a stenotype and taught fencing to supplement her tuition. It was at this college where she first met her husband, Frank Edgar Amis. Prior to graduating from junior college she helped her father with office work at his hardware store in Harlingen. When the hardware store was sold, she got a job in San Antonio at USAA. Frank was stationed at Ft. Sam Houston at the time and they were married in San Antonio in March of 1942.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Frank and her sister Roberta.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Cheatham and husband Roy, grandson, Christopher Box, and wife Kelly, granddaughter Debra Baird, great grandchildren Meghan, Lane and Mallory Box, Amanda and Alesha Lester and Nicole Claxton as well as 7 great-great grandchildren.
Barbara was a faithful servant and committed to her Lord, her husband and her family. She greeted friends and strangers alike with a smile, a hug and a "God bless you". She regularly attended Lifegate Church until she was physically unable to do so but continued to read her Bible daily. Her faith sustained her throughout her life. Her weekly visits to the Guadalupe Regional Medical Center, where she was once a volunteer, were a source of great joy to her over the years.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Lifegate Church.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the GRMC Hospice team for their kindness and comfort and all their efforts on behalf of our mother and grandmother.
Words cannot convey how grateful and thankful our family is for the angels who work at Nesbit Living and Recovery Center. Thank you for making our mother and grandmother a home when she could no longer live in her own. You made the last years of her life happy and safe and for that we will forever be in your debt.
In lieu of flowers it was Barbara's wish that memorial contributions be made either to Lifegate Christian School, 395 Lifegate Lane, Seguin, TX 78155 or to the Guadalupe Regional Medical Center Hospice, 1215 E. Court St, Seguin, TX 78155.
