Carlos Cruz Sr.

November 4, 1925 — November 30, 2016

Carlos De La Cruz, 91, died Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at the Remarkable Healthcare Center in Seguin, following a brief illness. Born in La Costa, Texas on November 4, 1925, he is the son of Gregorio and Consuelo (Almaguer) De La Cruz of San Antonio, Tx.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother (Aida and Luis De La Cruz) and infant daughter, Mary.

A lifelong resident of Seguin, Carlos, was employed at Randolph Air Force Base, as a jet engine mechanic retiring in 1984. In his early years he served in the US Army 29th Air Service Group, 13th Air Force and was deployed to the Philippines near the end of World War II. He later joined the US Air Force Reserves and attained the rank of Master Sergeant. He served with the 96th Maintenance Squadron operating out of Kelly Air Force Base and worked to restore the last Martin B-10 Bomber which is currently on display at the National Museum of the Air Force. Carlos operated a small engine repair business from his home for many years after his retirement from Randolph AFB, and was extremely talented as a mechanic.

He met his wife Celia Medina in 1953 and after a wonderful courtship, they were married at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Seguin, on December 12, 1954. He remained a lifelong member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and loved the Lord and reading scriptures.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Celia, two sons, Andrew (Karen) of San Antonio, and Carlos Jr. (Cyndi), of Seguin; four daughters, Teresa De La Cruz of San Antonio, Elva, (Ugur) Karabiyik of Tampa, FL, Clara Watral, (David) of Catawissa, PA, and Debbie De La Cruz Vigil of Seguin; seventeen grandchildren, Alison McShane, Andrea Riley, David Jr.Watral, Diana Turgut, Julio Jr. Rivera, Ugur Karabiyik, Ibrahim Karabiyik, Lucinda Vigil, Allie Vigil Moore, Andrea De La Cruz, Aaron De La Cruz, Chris De La Cruz, Adrian De La Cruz, Ciara De La Cruz, Sabrina De La Cruz, Wyndi De La Cruz and Xavier Ricardo De La Cruz; and fifteen great-grandchildren, Ariann Milan, Mateo Moore , Zoe Moore , Kenan Julio Turgut, Darien De La Cruz, Lucas Riley, Alaina Riley, Eva Riley, Madeline Riley, Nicholas Riley, Jack McShane, Norah McShane, Charlie McShane, Harry McShane, and Oliver McShane.

He enjoyed both classical and mystery films, football, dancing and cigars. Carlos will be remembered as a loving father, husband, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to all.

Visitation will held at Palmer Mortuary Chapel on Friday, December 2, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., the Rosary will be recited by Frances Luna at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church (409 W. Krezdorn St., Seguin, TX 78155) at 9:00 a.m., on Saturday, December 3, 2016. Carlos will be laid to rest at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park (2951 S. State HWY 46, New Braunfels, TX 78130).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made, in his name, to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
