Carmen Q. Herrera

April 17, 1946 — December 5, 2025

Seguin, Texas

Carmen Q. Herrera was born on April 17, 1946, in San Antonio, Texas, to Luis Quesada and Vicenta Valadez. She was lovingly raised from a young age by her aunt, Florencia Silva.

As an adult, Carmen often traveled to Michigan to visit her mother and siblings. During one of these trips, she met Mariano Herrera, a fellow Texan who was working with family in Michigan. Their romance continued across the miles after Carmen returned to San Antonio. The couple eventually married at Little Flower Basilica in San Antonio on April 24, 1976.

Carmen had four children and was a devoted homemaker until her youngest started school. She then began working for the Schacht family as a laundry attendant and eventually as a manager. She remained dedicated to her work there until her retirement in December 2024.

Carmen supported her children throughout their school activities, and later did the same for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her greatest joy was cheering on her loved ones as they pursued their passions.

Beyond family, Carmen formed many close friendships through her years working in the laundries and stayed connected with them even throughout her long illness. She attended Mass at both St. James Catholic Church and Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church until she was no longer able, and she continued to keep her faith strong by praying the rosary daily.

If Carmen is remembered for anything, it will be her strength, faith, and the immense love she held for her family and friends. Her loved ones are comforted knowing she has been welcomed into her Savior’s arms and that her earthly burdens have been lifted.

Carmen is survived by her four children: Maria Herrera of Seguin; Christina Purvis (James) of Seguin; Carolina Overstreet (Neal) of Huffman, TX; and Michael Herrera of Seguin; six grandchildren: Nikki Lopez (Kelly), Anna Salas, Mark Salas, Andrea Salas, Ava Overstreet, and Rigby Overstreet; three great-grandchildren: Joshua Garcia Jr., Rose Salas, and Lyla Salas; and nine siblings. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years, Mariano; her mother, Vicenta (Valadez) Galan; her loving aunt, Florencia Silva; and her brother, Ernesto Galan.

Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Herrera, Mark Salas, Rigby Overstreet, James Purvis, Neal Overstreet and Joshua Garcia. Honorary Pallbearer will be Joshua Garcia Jr.

The family will receive condolences on Friday, December 19, 2025 at Palmer Mortuary from 5pm to 8pm.

The final viewing will be on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at Palmer Mortuary starting at 8:30am. A funeral procession will depart to St. James Catholic Church where the Holy Rosary will be recited at 10am followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30am.

All services will conclude at the church and a private cremation will follow. The family will lay both Carmen and Mariano to rest in the spring.
