Cay "Simmy" Cimental

May 17, 1940 — May 16, 2025

Seguin, Texas

Cay "Simmy" Cimental, a proud Navy vet and full-time family man, left us to hang out with the big guy upstairs on May 16, 2025. He almost made it to his 85th birthday—talk about a trooper! Born on May 17, 1940, in the lively town of McQueeney, Texas (but raised in Kingsbury), he sure packed a lot into those years.

Simmy was a character, to say the least! He had a knack for trickery that kept everyone on their toes. Whatcha gonna do when you walk into his house and there's a lizard hiding there? Yep, that was one of his classic moves, especially for his unsuspecting daughter, Brandy. But don’t get it twisted, he was all about love. He adored his grandchildren and always had gum on hand for them. Are you sensing a theme here? He absolutely loved family gatherings, especially when they involved good food. Johnny's BBQ and Davila's BBQ were basically second homes to him.

Now, let's talk about his cool Navy days and how he was a Vietnam Veteran and how he sailed in the USS George Clymer; that makes him the coolest and bravest dad and grandpa! He was super proud of his service, he would often joke with the guys on the ship and tell them he had two girlfriends, they’d ask him to prove it and he would roll up his sleeve and show them the tattoo on his arm. And he’d joke about it like a champ! Who else could make you chuckle? It's no wonder he made faces on tree stumps and shared lessons from the Bible with his grandkids. Teaching them that kind of stuff while making silly faces? Now, that's what we call multitasking!

Hawaii was his dream destination, and believe it or not, he lived there for six whole months as his first duty station in the Navy and then another six months after. He missed it so much that we think he might have been dreaming of it at night, too. You could usually find him in his yard or shed, always keeping busy with something—unless he was at the park, enjoying the great outdoors. Just don’t ask him to fish; that wasn't his cup of tea.

He leaves behind a great crew: his children Brandy Garrett (David), Ginger Waltenbaugh (Chris), and Bobby McGee; and his grandkids, who brought him so much joy: Brandon Weber, Ashley Weber, Lisa Prather (Cedric), Cody McGee Wyatt, Abraham Luna, and Alegandra Luna. He also has some siblings who will surely miss him: Magdalena Sanchez, Chilo Cimental (Mary), Raul Cimental (Susan), Olga Ledezma (Elpidio), and Alice Morales as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He might be gone, but his spirit and the many memories he made will continue to bring smiles and laughter to those lucky enough to have known him. He’s reunited now with his beloved wife Irene and his parents, Cleofas and Apolinar, along with siblings Annie Caddell and Francisco Cimental. Until we meet again, Simmy—keep the BBQ warm up there!

Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at Palmer Mortuary from 11am to 1pm. Military Honors will be rendered promptly at 1pm and a funeral service will follow. A private interment of Cay's cremated remains will be held at a later date for immediate family at Kingsbury Cemetery.
