Charity
Fernandez
Jan 7, 1975 — Sep 22, 2026
Just as the caterpillar reaches the end of its quiet journey only to emerge with wings, Charity has completed her earthly chapters and transitioned into lasting peace.
On September 22, 2026, Charity Calderon Fernandez passed away at the age of 51 in San Antonio, TX.
To those who loved her, this loss is not a permanent conclusion, but a metamorphosis – the freeing of a gorgeous soul from its earthly bonds.
Born on January 7, 1975, in Seguin, TX, to Juanita and the late Steven Calderon, she captured their hearts at first sight.
Her greatest joy was the life she built alongside her loving husband, Albert Fernandez. Together for almost two decades, they shared laughter, quiet comfort, and a love that weathered many storms. Albert never left her side. Through every hard day of her illness, he was her caregiver, her protector, and her constant companion, right to the very end. His devotion to her was as fierce and loyal as hers was to him. Though Charity has left Albert behind in this earthly life, the bond between them remains unbroken. While he is left to navigate a world that feels significantly darker, Albert will anchor himself to the precious memories and the enduring love they so generously gave each other.
Among those left to navigate the emptiness of a world without Charity is her deeply devoted mother, Juanita Carrillo Calderon. The bond between them was fierce, and woven through 51 years of laughter, phone calls, and an unconditional love. Janie will carry the shattered pieces of her heart until they are together, again. She holds firm in the knowledge that Charity is now with her beloved Dad in Heaven.
One can only imagine the tears of joy, as Steve took her hand, and whispered softly in her ear, “Welcome Home, Mama,” as they walked hand in hand down the streets of gold, for eternity.
Charity lived a life of grand adventure, embracing the beauty of different cultures while residing in Germany, and capturing unforgettable moments during her visit to France. Her ultimate dream came true during a breathtaking pilgrimage to Rome and Vatican City, a journey that filled her heart with peace and awe.
Along with her husband, Albert, their adventurous spirits took them from the bustling streets of New York, Chicago, and Boston, to the scenic coast of San Francisco, the familiar warmth of New Jersey, the calming landscapes of Kentucky and the natural beauty of Canada. Together, they created memories never to be forgotten.
Charity’s absence leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts of all who knew her, including her little sister and lifelong best friend, Stefany Calderon. From childhood secrets to the understanding of adulthood, their bond was a testament to the unbreakable connection shared by sisters lucky enough to have one another. The challenges they braved together and the foundational love they held for each other will remain alive, always. It is a light that not even death can diminish.
One of the most tender bonds Charity shared was with her beloved feline son, Rome E. He was her shadow on difficult days, and her comfort when she needed it. He was her source of pure, endless love. She remains with him in his quiet purrs and gentle gazes. The family pledges to surround Rome with the same love and care his mom gave him.
Charity embraced the relationship she had with her brother-in-law, Jaime Fernandez, Jr, her sister-in-law, Sharon, their son, Eric Mabry, his wife, Ashley, her father-in-law, Jaime Fernandez, Sr, and her late mother-in-law, Magdalena Fernandez.
Holding the family up through this unimaginable heartbreak are Charity’s adoring aunts and uncles: Maria Pierce (Martin), Dora Luera, Bobby Calderon, Nick Carrillo (Velma) and Joe G. Carrillo (Loretta).
Though the void is immeasurable, Charity’s spirit will be carried forward by the ones who grew up alongside her; more than just family members, she leaves behind a tribe of cousins and friends.
Each of us know that it was not only her father waiting for her at the gates of Heaven, but her beloved grandparents, Teodora L. and Jose M. Carrillo, and Guadalupe L. and Inocencio Calderon, along with the aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, who no doubt wrapped her in their embrace. None more so than Barkley Hercules, her canine son. We know he ran straight into her arms and smothered her with kisses.
Charity lived her life as a reflection of her name, giving entirely of herself to comfort and lift those around her.
While our hearts ache at the empty space left behind, we take comfort in knowing that Charity’s spirit has taken flight, entirely unbound, beautifully transformed and eternally free.
Pallbearers:
Brent Carrillo, Carlos Miranda, Jr, Jason Carrillo, Jon T. Pierce, Daniel Pierce, Travis Pierce, Miguel Carrillo, Jr, and Corey Calderon
Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will leave this life. The Lord gives, and the Lord takes away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.
