OBITUARY GENE TIEMANN

Gene Tiemann, a lifelong resident and business man of Seguin, died December 23, 2007. He was 72. Born Eugene Louis Tiemann to Eugenia and Louis Tiemann on September 10, 1935, he was the oldest of 5 children. Gene met the love of his life, Barbara Ann Quirk while attending Seguin High School and the two were married in August 1954. An exceptional athlete in his youth, Gene went on to Texas A M competing in both football and wrestling. The drive to start a family soon took over, as Gene and Barbara brought 10 beautiful children into this world between 1955 and 1969. A devoted husband and father, Gene worked long difficult hours at various jobs over the years to provide for the needs of his family. Whether it was driving a bulldozer or dump truck for Tiemann Sand Gravel, flipping hamburgers and making malts at the Triangle Drive Inn, or doing jewelry collection for Zales Mission Jewelers in the roughest parts of San Antonio, Gene was willing to do whatever it took to put food on his familys table. Despite the many hours Gene worked, he always found time to take an active role in the lives of his children. Teaching the basics of good work ethics and coaching his children in every football, baseball softball league that was available, was a passion to Gene. This passion for wanting his children to be the best they could be stayed with him throughout his entire life. Gene was also a very serious domino player. Many a Sunday afternoon he could be found in New Berlin playing a wining hand of moon. All of his fellow domino partners preceded him in death. No doubt theres a big game going on already. After his wife and his children, Genes love for Texas A M took center stage. Seldom did Gene miss an Aggie football game on Saturday afternoon. Nothing made him happier than a big Aggie win and nothing upset him more than the dumb mistakes in an Aggie loss. He was pure Aggie through and through and proud of it. For the past 25 years, Gene was a successful and well respected Farmers Insurance agent here in Seguin. Recognized for his achievements on numerous occasions by Farmers, he was one of the top agents in all of Texas for several years. Gene officially retired in August of this year, but continued going in to the office throughout most of November. He loved his work. Gene spent his entire adult life with his wife of 53 years. Their love and respect for each other has been an inspiration to both family and friends. What a beautiful couple Gene and Barbara were over the years. What a wonderful life they shared. He also loved having his grandchildren surround him during the holidays and at any old occasion for the family to get together. He was the best example of a father that a child could ever ask for. He will be missed tremendously by all those who knew him. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald; sister, Janice; daughter, Catherine; and son, Thomas. Gene is survived by his wife Barbara of Seguin; children, Jeannie Alvarado and husband Arthur of Tehachapi, CA, Donald Tiemann and wife Brenda of Tulsa, OK, Michael Tiemann of Seguin, Mary Roesler and husband Dennis of San Antonio, Randy Tiemann and wife Sandra of Seguin, Dennis Tiemann and wife Esther of Seguin, Jackie Stedman of Fox Lake, IL, and John Tiemann of Seguin; 19 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sister, A.Lynn Tiemann of Austin, and brother Theodore Teddy Tiemann of San Marcos; aunt, Dorothy Barton of Smithville, TX; 2 nieces and a number of cousins.
