It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Gilbert Gonzales, on January 4, 2026, in Edinburg, Texas. Gilbert was a life-long resident of Seguin born on March 3, 1947, to Maria de Jesus (Amador) and Joe L. Gonzales and is preceded in death by his mother and father, his wife, Yolanda R. Gonzales, and his siblings, Margaret Nieto, Richard Gonzales and Joe Gonzales, Jr.
Gilbert was a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and a very talented musician and singer and is survived by his sons, Gilbert Orlando Gonzales (Nancy) and Antonio Reynaldo Gonzales (Michelle); 6 grandchildren - Giovanni Orlando, Dimitri Hani, Alexandra Giselle, Sebastian Vicente, Jonathan Reynaldo, and Vanessa Amanda; and 2 great grandchildren - Kimber Ann and Dora Amanda. Gilbert is also survived by his siblings - Maria Joe (Josie), Fred, Rachel, Ninfa (Jesse) and Oralia as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
Gilbert's musical career spanned 6 decades starting with a local band "The Broken Hearts" where he, his brother Joe Jr., and cousins played at various venues in the San Antonio and surrounding area. He was a multi-talented musician on several musical instruments, a vocalist, arranger and was able to play in several genres of music.
Gilbert was drafted to the military at the age of 19 in 1966 and served as a Private First Class in the Army until 1968 and stationed in Germany. As his discharge from the service neared, he decided to remain in Germany after a 6-month extension and continued his musical career. While in Germany he joined a band "The Sounds of Soul" and toured with the group traveling Europe expressing his love of music. After returning to his homeland, Gilbert played with various Tejano groups including Los Vientos, Pavo Band, Alfonso Ramos, Ruben Ramos, Street People and various other groups. As the constant travel and health issues became prominent, he turned himself to the Lord playing gospel music in the hope of leading others to the Word. Gilbert believed his musical talents were reserved for praise and glory to Christ in thanks for the many blessings he received through Him.
Gilbert Gonzales was also a member of the National Hispanic Music Hall of Fame inducted in February 1991 in El Paso, Texas and the Tejano Roots Music Hall of Fame inducted January 2013 in Alice, Texas.
