James Hitchcock

September 21, 1938 — July 5, 2018

After a long and hard battle, James Edward Hitchcock, of Seguin, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at the age of 79. He was born in Kenova, West Virginia on September 21, 1938 to Daisy (Blanton) and Roy M. Hitchcock.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years: Harriett, daughter: Paula (Jimmy) Abbott, son: James Mitchell Hitchcock (Nicole) and granddaughter: Lela and grandson to be: Landon Jameson (who will be called, "LJ" Little Jim), grandson: Joshua (Kimberly) Abbott and two great grandsons: Hayden and Luke, daughters: Jayme Denyer and Denise Barber.

Jim came to Seguin looking for a place to open a transmission business. He found a place on Kingsbury Street. He started small with 3 bays and then expanded to 9. He was in business for over 40 years at Tri-State Transmission and even when he retired, people called him, "The Transmission Expert." He was honest and told people exactly what was wrong. He also owned the carwash on Kingsbury Street. He maintained it and ran it for over 13 years. He was a successful business man. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He spent a lot of time with friends and family at the coast. In the last few years, his health prevented him from doing all of these things he loved so much. He focused his attention on doing what he could and supervised the rest of us so we wouldn't make mistakes. He loved NASCAR racing, visiting with old friends, and reminiscing about their hunting and fishing stories. He never did get to take that long trip on his Harley Davidson. He would have enjoyed that. He loved his family very much. Paula, Mitchell and Lela brought so much joy to him.

We will miss him. We know he isn't hurting anymore. He did everything his way in life and in death. He did not want a fuss made over him and so we will honor his wishes.
A Memorial Service will be held at Palmer Mortuary Chapel on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. (services will conclude in the chapel).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions can be made to the Coastal Conservation Association.
