Obituary

John Henry Schmidt passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on October 07, 2026 at the age of 89. He was born to Christian Schmidt and Lucille Schmidt on January 11, 1937 in Seguin, Texas.

John Henry Schmidt will be remembered for his love of family, dancing, hard work, and the many memories he created throughout his life. He enjoyed working his farm, tending to his cattle, driving his tractor, and taking care of his yard. John loved to entertain, listen to Willie Nelson on the Roadhouse, and cheer on his favorite teams, the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys.

One of John’s most treasured memories was when his cousin, Dallas Schmidt, taught him how to work as a young boy. That lesson stayed with him throughout his life, shaping his strong work ethic and appreciation for hard work. Among his proudest accomplishments were the businesses he owned and operated alongside his beloved wife, Deborah. Together, they ran the Country Cabaret Bar and Dance Hall from 1989 to 2007 and an RV park from 2004 to 2023. John took great pride in his work and loved bringing people together, entertaining others, and making lasting memories.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Deborah Schmidt; his former wife, Ellen Schmidt; his daughter, Debra Ratterree; his son, Nolan Schmidt; his sisters-in-law, Lillian Emily Schmidt and Leticia Loaiza Schmidt; and his grandsons, Mark Davis Jr., Clayton Ratterree and his wife, Emily, Jake Davis and his wife, Casey, and Colin Ratterree. He is also survived by his great-granddaughters, Alexis Nelson, Addison Ratterree, Finley Lou Davis, Charli Ratterree, and Callie Ratterree; his great-grandson, Calan Davis; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Christian Schmidt Sr.; his mother, Lucille Schmidt; his stepmother, Alvina “Blondie” Schmidt; his son, John Wesley Schmidt; his daughter, Laura Davis; his brothers, Hilmar Schmidt, Cleburn Schmidt, Robert Schmidt, William Schmidt, Kenneth Schmidt, Franklin Schmidt, Joe Schmidt, David Schmidt, Christian Schmidt Jr., and Jack Schmidt Sr.; and his sisters, Mildred Hansmann, Viola Gotthardt, and Lou Audrey Ramzinsky.

John’s legacy lives on through the family he loved, the lessons he passed down, and the countless memories he created. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his hard work, love of music and dancing, generous spirit, and the life he built with those closest to him.
