With hearts heavy with sorrow, we announce the passing of Joshua Juarez Nelson, lovingly known by those closest to him as “Pumba.” Born on December 14, 1982, Joshua touched the lives of all who knew him with his infectious smile, his heartfelt laughter, and the steadfast loyalty that radiated from his very being. On July 20, 2026, at the age of 43, Joshua’s journey was cut unexpectedly short after a courageous battle with pneumonia. What began as what he believed was a simple cold became a two-week fight for his life—a fight he met with resilience until the very end.

Joshua’s life was filled with vibrant moments and cherished memories, far too numerous to ever fully recount. He was the embodiment of friendship and love, always ready with an open hand and open heart. Whether it was gathering with family and friends, enjoying a delicious meal out, or spending summer days by the river, Joshua embraced every opportunity to share joy and laughter. The world was truly brighter in his presence.

A passionate supporter of the Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs, boxing. Joshua found happiness in watching sports with family and friends. He loved music, providing him with inspiration and comfort. But perhaps the true soundtrack of Joshua’s life was the laughter and voices of those he cared for most—family and his friends meant everything to him, and he cherished every get-together, every hug, every meaningful conversation shared.

Joshua’s memory will be lovingly carried on by his devoted family. He is survived by his son, Zayvien Juarez, who brought him immense pride and joy. His mother, Angelina Valdez, and his father, Nino Juarez, mourn the loss of their beloved son. Joshua’s siblings Brother, Johnathan Juarez and wife Cassie, sister Paula Castillo and her husband Paul, sisters Kisha Paige, Crystal Lovell, Jennifer Juarez, Kristi Soto, and along with several nieces and nephews—remain to honor his legacy, holding tightly to treasured memories and the bond they share. Joshua’s warmth and kindness also leave lasting imprints on many aunts, uncles, cousins, and all those who were his friends he called family.

While we grieve his absence, we also remember those family members who preceded Joshua in passing: his grandparents Hugo and Carrie Valdez, Lola Juarez, and Saturnino Soto, as well as his sister Joylinda Juarez. Their spirits are reunited, and surely Joshua is welcomed with loving arms. We know Joshua will be watching over those he knew that left the world too soon.

A visitation honoring Joshua’s life will be held on August 2, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Palmer Mortuary & Cremations, 1116 N Austin St, Seguin, TX 78155. Service will be held starting at 4:30 PM at the same location.
