Funeral Service
Joyce "Omie" Maxine Hales, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and dear sister, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026, in San Marcos, Texas. Born on October 12, 1932, in Albert, Texas, Joyce lived a life filled with love, dedication, and joy in the simple pleasures that deeply enriched her family’s lives.
Joyce is remembered fondly for her many years working at The Bottle House in Seguin, a place she truly cherished. Her career was more than just a job—it was a source of pride and fulfillment. Beyond her work, Joyce’s heart belonged to her family. She was a steadfast and loving presence in the lives of her children and grandchildren, always finding happiness at their extracurricular activities, including sporting events and stock shows. Her pride in her family was evident in every moment she spent with them.
Known for her impeccable neatness and a beautifully kept home, Joyce took great joy in orderliness and cleanliness, reflecting the love and care she held for her surroundings. Her garden was a sanctuary where she lovingly tended to her roses, finding peace and happiness outdoors among the blooms she nurtured with patience and devotion.
Joyce delighted in cooking home-cooked meals for her family, a testament to her nurturing spirit. While baking was not her favorite, preparing hearty, lovingly made food was her way of bringing everyone together and expressing her care.
Her family was the cornerstone of her life. She is survived by her children; Billy Hales and his wife Beverly; Tommy Hales and his wife Sherri; and Nancy Menard and husband Stacey. She also leaves behind cherished grandchildren, Cody Hales, Ross Hales, Courtney Underwood, Coleman Hales, and Sara Hales, along with eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, whose lives she touched profoundly. Joyce was also a beloved sister to Julie Marshall.
Joyce’s life was shaped by both joy and sorrow. She is preceded in death by her husband, GW Hales, whose partnership was a cornerstone of her life; her grandsons, Tyler Menard and Matthew Hales, whose memories she carried close to her heart; and her sisters Boopsie Ownes, Paula Wiegand, Helen Platt, and Doni Boston.
Her love, kindness, and dedication created a legacy that will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. Joyce "Omie" Maxine Hales was a radiant light in the lives of her family and community, a gentle soul who found happiness in the love of family, the beauty of nature, and the simple joys of life. She will be deeply missed but warmly remembered, forever a treasured presence in the hearts of those she loved.
The family will receive condolences on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Palmer Mortuary from 12:30pm to 2pm. A funeral service will begin at 2pm and after services conclude a funeral procession will depart the chapel to San Geronimo Cemetery where Joyce will be laid to rest with her husband.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jeff Underwood, Cody Hales, Ross Hales, Coleman Hales, Cash Menard and Carson Menard.
