Maria Ascencion Montoya, lovingly known as Mary/Momo, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2025, in Seguin, Texas. She was surrounded by the family she cherished so deeply. Her life is marked by warmth, generosity, and unwavering love for those around her.
Mary is known for her contagious smile that could light up any room and a heart so big that she never met a stranger. She welcomed everyone with a warm embrace, making them feel like part of her family from the first introduction. Most importantly, Mary is a woman of God. She spoke often and freely about her love for Jesus Christ and encouraged her family to always put God first in all they did and give their full trust to the Lord.
She is a devoted wife to her late husband, Artemio G. Montoya, and a proud mother to her seven children; Rene Montoya (Maria), Rita Robles (Juan), Irene Montoya, Abel Montoya (Arcelia), Benjamin Montoya (Rosie), Elizabeth Montoya, & Beatrice Montoya. Her legacy of love continues through her grandchildren; Christopher Montoya (Jessica), Erica Escobedo, Amanda Montoya (Emanuel), Abigail Torres (Adam), Crystal Montoya, Stephanie Tamez (Richard), Joshua Montoya (Nicole), Clarissa Montoya (Myles), Llamar Vasquez Jr., Ryan Montoya, & Nicholas Saldana; 16 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren, all of whom are the center of her world. Mary is also survived by her brother Jesse Perales, and numerous nieces and nephews, and other family members who also love her dearly. Mary’s home is a place of comfort—always filled with the delicious aromas of home-cooked meals and the clinking of sweet iced tea glasses. She showed her love best through her cooking and her constant care.
In her early years, Mary dedicated herself fully to raising her family, always putting their needs first. Later in life, she went back to school and found her calling working at GRMC as a CNA and HUC; where she discovered a deep passion for helping others and continued to touch countless lives with her compassion and kindness.
Mary’s legacy is one of unconditional love, service, and joy. She leaves behind a family who will continue to honor her by living with the same warmth, strength, and grace she embodied every day.
Mary is now reunited with her parents; Jose Angel & Mercedes (Sepeda) Perales, her brother; Angel (Joe) Perales Jr., and her sisters; Victoria Lopez, Maria Perez, Josefita Perales, & Guadalupe Chavez, who were called to their eternal rest before her.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
