Mario "Smiley" Saldaña, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, was born on November 30, 1972, in Seguin, Texas. He was taken from his family far too soon on August 17, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, humor, and love.
Known for his infectious smile and larger-than-life personality, Smiley lived up to his nickname every day. He had an extraordinary ability to light up any room he entered, forever ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His caring nature and desire for harmony among people defined his character; he truly wanted everyone to get along. A natural jokester, Smiley was the life of the party, continually sharing laughter and joy through his clever jokes and playful spirit.
In his personal life, Smiley found great joy in singing karaoke, often performing for family and friends and enriching their gatherings with his love for music. His warm spirit and laughter resonated with those around him, creating countless cherished memories.
Smiley is survived by his loving wife of three years, Rosanna Perez, who stood by his side and supported him unconditionally. Together they created a nurturing home filled with love. He was a devoted father to his children, Samantha, Mario, Jr., Amanda, Serenity, Francisco, and Alyssia, who were his pride and joy. His grandchildren, Madi, Athena, Martin, and Ozzy, brought him immense happiness, and he loved spoiling them with affection and attention. Smiley's love extended to his father, Ruben Saldaña, and his only sister, Monica Navarro, and her husband, Michael. He cherished his nieces, Brittany Hernandez and her husband, Hugo, and Priscilla Rodriguez and her husband, Eli. Smiley’s family expanded with the joy of 7 fur babies, as well as to his friends and extended family all of whom received his tender loving care.
Though he is preceded in death by his mother, Irene Saldaña, son, Ruben Felix Saldaña, granddaughter, Scarlet Saldaña, grandmothers, Paula Perez and Cruzita Colunga, and his great-grandfather, Francisco Saldaña, the love and memories he shared will remain forever in the hearts of those he left behind.
Smiley’s unexpected passing has left a void that cannot be filled, but his spirit continues to inspire those who knew and loved him. His legacy of kindness and laughter will live on in the stories shared, the smiles he inspired, and the love he gave so freely. In this time of profound loss, we remember Mario "Smiley" Saldaña for the incredible person he was and the love he brought into our lives. He will be deeply missed but forever cherished.
