Obituary

Marvin W. Jandt, age 96, of Seguin, passed away on August 12, 2026. Marvin was born on October 7, 1929, at his home in Hobson, Texas. He was the only child to Willie C. Jandt and Elsie Schaller Jandt. At the age of 5, Marvin and his family moved to Falls City, Texas.

Marvin spent much of his childhood on the family farm and going to school in Deweesville. He was 18 years old when he lost his father, so Marvin worked on the farm raising corn and hay to support both his mother and the farm. He loved hunting especially coyotes and other vermin. He loved it so much, he hunted before and after school. Sometimes there wouldn't be enough time to clean up, so the lingering skunk smell would fill the school.

Marvin met the love of his life, Ida Mae Retzloff, in 1949. He met her for the first time when he and his dad went to buy a hunting dog from Mr. Retzloff. Shortly thereafter, they started dating and later married on January 4, 1953 at the Martin Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fashing, Tx. Marvin and Ida Mae resided in Falls City and had two children, David and Linda. In 1962, they made their home in Seguin, Texas. In the beginning, he worked as a carpenter, building homes, then at SMI-Structual Metals Incorp. Marvin also worked on airplanes at the Avon Airport. He retired at NBU-New Braunfels Utilities as a lineman.

In 1998, after retirement, Marvin and Ida Mae decided to move back to the farm in Falls City. They continued raising cattle, hay, and burning cactus. By then, he enjoyed going on deer hunts with his grandchildren, Lance Jandt, Leanne Gerleman, Zach Parsons, and Sam Parsons.

In 2017, they made another move back to Seguin to live with their daughter, Linda, until Ida Mae his wife of 69 years—passed away in March of 2022. That day changed Marvin's life forever. For four years, he grieved every day and spent many hours looking through photo albums of her. Marvin also spent the last four years living with his son, David, and daughter-in-law, Penny.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Ida Mae Retzloff Jandt; and parents, Willie and Elsie Jandt.

He is survived by his son, David Jandt and wife, Penny: grandson Lance and wife Kellie; great-grandchildren Reid and Kenni Jandt; granddaughter Leanne and husband, David Gerleman; great-grandchildren Harley White, Summer White and fiancé Weston McDonald, and great-great grandson Sawyer McDonald.

He is also survived by his daughter, Linda and husband, Martin Wiatrek; grandson Zach Parsons; grandson Samuel and wife, Kristin Parsons, and great-grandsons Everett and Owen Parsons.

Marvin was known as Dad, Papa or Opie. He was a kind and soft-spoken man with many talents. Even though he is no longer with us on Earth, we can find comfort in knowing he has been reunited with his loved ones in Heaven and is at peace in the presence of the Lord.
