Rita L. Salas, beloved daughter, sister, teacher, and friend, passed away December 25, 2023, in San Antonio, TX. She was born on October 21, 1959, in her hometown of Seguin, TX. Rita's passing is mourned by her loving family and cherished friends.

Growing up in Seguin, Rita graduated from Seguin High School. Her thirst for knowledge led her to pursue higher education at Southwest Texas University, where she graduated in 1999 with a Bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. Rita's dedication to learning and personal growth was evident throughout her life as she continued to engage in various career pursuits.

Rita's professional journey was decorated with compassion and commitment. She spent many years working at Dairy Queen before transitioning to become a dedicated special education aide at Seguin ISD. Inspired by her impactful role as an aide, Rita went on to become a teacher within the school district. Her unwavering dedication extended beyond Seguin ISD to the San Marcos Treatment Center, where she continued her work as a teacher.

As accomplished as she was professionally, Rita's true treasure lay in her family connections. She found immense joy in spending time with her loved ones, especially her nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Rita's love for family knew no bounds - she wholeheartedly celebrated every occasion alongside them. Christmas held a special place in her heart; she dedicated months preparing for the festivities that adorned the holiday season. With gifts thoughtfully bought and an array of dishes eagerly anticipated, Rita made Christmas magical for everyone who had the pleasure of sharing it with her.

Rita's outgoing personality radiated warmth and inspired all who had the privilege of knowing her. Throughout her life, she confronted numerous health challenges with unparalleled bravery and optimism. Undeterred by any obstacle that came her way, Rita faced adversity with unwavering faith in God, she reminded us that her strength and help came only from Him. Her positive attitude and resilient spirit served as a reminder to us all that strength can be found even in the darkest of times.

Rita's circle of friends extended far and wide, a testament to her remarkable ability to connect with others. She effortlessly made friends wherever she went, leaving an everlasting impression on each person she encountered. Her genuine interest in people's lives was evident as she consistently stayed in touch with old and new friends alike. Rita found great joy in hearing about the events and milestones in their lives, offering unwavering support and love through every conversation.

Rita's passing leaves behind a void that can never be filled. However, her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. As we gather to honor her life, a visitation will be held on January 2, 2024 at Palmer Mortuary from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Let us come together to celebrate the life of this exceptional woman.

Rita is survived by her mother, Patsy Salas; her brother Frank Salas (Tammy); her sister Patsy Thorsteinson (Lonnie); her sister Sandra Hart (Lewis); nieces Traci Salazar (Joe); and Bethany Thorsteinson (Josh); nephews Lewis Hart (Ashely); Dillon Hart (Katie); Ryan Thorsteinson (Nancy); and Matthew Hart (Alexis) as well as 10 great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Andres Salas, as well as her grandparents Francisco and Seferina Salas, and Tomas and Dominga Leos.

In honor of Rita's remarkable life, let us carry forward the lessons she taught us: to face challenges with unwavering faith, to cherish our loved ones at every opportunity, and to spread kindness wherever we go. Rita may have departed this earthly realm, but her impact will remain etched in our hearts forever. Rest in peace, dear Rita, knowing that your light will continue to shine brightly through the memories we hold dear.
