He was born during the depression, on April 26, 1929 in a small shack in Hornbeak, Tennessee, with no running water, electricity or indoor plumbing. He was number 9 of 10 children and his family farmed cotton and corn on 20 acres, with two mules (named Red and Alec). After graduating, from Dixie High School in 1948, he joined the US Airforce.

In 1954, while stationed at Walker AFB, in Roswell, NM, he met Dixie Helene Nickolas on a blind date. In 1964, while stationed at Eielson AFB, Alaska, their second child, Daniel Vernon Baker, was born. Robin Spent 26 years in the Airforce, rising from Private to Senior Master Sargent. He ultimately retired from Kelly AFB in 1974.

His family settled in Seguin, Texas. He loved to fish, hunt, play fast pitch softball, square dance call and make new friends, wherever he went. He always took care of his family, from spending money to help support his father, to putting both of his sons through college, to feeding his grandchildren breakfast tacos and donuts, every Sunday. Forever full of himself, being in his company was always a pleasure. His friends and family will miss him dearly and will treasure all the happy memories they spent with him.
