Ruben Herrera

Ruben Herrera, of Seguin, devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away in his home on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at the age of 82. He was born in Seguin, Texas on July 13, 1933 to Florindo and Elvira (Zapata) Herrera.

He is preceded in death by his parents, loving wife Victoria Herrera, sister Cora Linda Herrera, daughter Rosario Sassenhagen, as well as his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Survivors include his brothers: Raymundo Herrera and wife Carolina, Reynaldo Herrera and wife Maryann, Alfredo Herrera and wife Frances, and Benjamin Herrera and wife Mary Ellen; children from his first marriage, Ruben Herrera, Jr., George Herrera, Hector Herrera, Joy Linda Villegas, and Irene Herrera; in 1984, he married Victoria, with whom he shared 31 years of marriage; and is also survived by 5 children, sons: Arnold Gomez and wife Elisa, Ray Gomez and wife Gloria, Rene Gomez and wife Geneva, Roman Gomez and wife Graciela, and son Santiago Gomez, Elma Kelley and husband Patrick, Lucy Vigil and husband Juan, Delores Haskins and husband John, and Mary Gomez.

He was a loving, giving, hardworking, and a dedicated family man. Ruben built his life around his family and friends. His deep love, strength, and integrity will be greatly missed by those that knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Palmer Mortuary Chapel, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, in Seguin. Interment will follow at San Geronimo Cemetery.
