Ruben Martinez Jr., 70, of Seguin, Texas, passed away on August 31, 2026, surrounded by the family he cherished and loved so deeply.

Ruben was born on June 21, 1956, in San Antonio, Texas, to Ruben T. and Candelaria Martinez. He lived a life rooted in faith, family, love, laughter, and hard work.

Ruben was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Mary Ann Martinez; goddaughter, Leticia Denise Denton, and husband, Marcus; children, Ruben Rafe Martinez, wife Kristi, and Aleta Rodriguez, husband Don Jr.; grandchildren, Claire Amelia and Lorenzo Lane Martinez; beloved grand dogs, Ryleo Rinn, Allie Grey, and Omar; mother, Candelaria Martinez; sisters, Mimi Justice and Abigail Martinez; as well as his nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ruben T. Martinez; his paternal grandparents, Jesus and Augustina Martinez; and his maternal grandparents, Manuel and Maria M. Castillo.

Ruben courageously battled two forms of blood cancer, multiple myeloma and MDS, for 15 years. Although his final battle was especially difficult, his faith, courage, love, laughter, and unmistakable sense of humor never wavered. Cancer challenged his body, but it could never take away the things that made Ruben who he was.

Ruben loved his family and friends with everything he had. If Ruben loved you, you knew it. His kindness, honesty, humor, and genuine heart left a lasting impression.

The family finds comfort in knowing that he is now at peace. We ask that you honor his memory by loving and cherishing those around you as deeply as Ruben did. Laugh often, hold your family close, live with faith, and never miss an opportunity to tell someone you love them.

The Martinez family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to GRMC Hospice and to his nurses, Sara and Karla, for the compassion, kindness, and care they provided Ruben and the family during his final days.

Visitation will be at St. James Catholic Church on Saturday September 5, 2026, at 10am. Rosary to be recited at 10:30am with mass to follow.
