Steven Calderon, born on August 3, 1949, in Seguin, Texas, departed this world on February 24, 2026, after a valiant battle with a years-long illness. Surrounded by the love he dedicated his life to, Steven's spirit has been set free, following the light guiding him to Heaven.
He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era, rising to the rank of Sergeant. After six years of service, Steven transitioned to a distinguished career as a Non Destructive Inspector at Kelly Air Force Base, Tinker Air Force Base, and the Corpus Christi Army Depot, dedicating 34 years of his life to Civil Service. Even after retirement, his commitment to hard work continued as he contributed his time at Seguin Chevrolet in the Parts Department.
Steven’s life was a tapestry woven with unforgettable memories, kindness, and unconditional love. He was a devoted family man, placing God first in all that he did. His wife, Juanita Carrillo Calderon, by his side for 50 beautiful years, celebrated a love that truly stood the test of time, showcasing how faith can conquer life’s challenges. His Daughters, Charity Calderon Fernandez (Al) and Stefany Calderon, were his pride and joy, and he found immeasurable happiness in being an exemplary Father to them. Along with them, Steven cherished his beloved Brother, Roberto "Bobby" Calderon.
A true lover of life and laughter, Steven had a wicked sense of humor that lit up the room until his last moments. His passion for family and friends was reflected in how he would go to great lengths to support those in need, selflessly offering even the shoes off his feet when required. Steven was not just a human being; he was a source of unwavering kindness and loyalty.
He was an avid animal lover, a trait he inherited from his Father. Steven took immense pride in being a "Grandpaw" to many furry and feathered companions, including his cherished feline "grandkids," Rome, October, and Cheyenne. His heart was as generous as it was big; he found joy in simply nurturing the lives around him.
Steven was also known as a golf enthusiast, first introduced to the sport by his late Uncle Lawrence, which blossomed into a lifelong love. For decades, he was a proud member of the Seguin Pan American Golf Association. In addition to his affinity for the greens, classic cars were his passion—particularly the restoration of a bright 1956 Chevy Bel-Air Hard-Top, among many others, a labor of love that reflected his creative spirit. A favorite pastime of his was watching NHRA Drag Racing, in person and on the television. In his younger years, he himself, enjoyed racing a car or two down the track, giving him a feeling of invigoration.
Steven's impact will resonate through his extended family, including his Aunt, Esther Leal Toscano, and many Nieces, Nephews, Godchildren, Cousins, and Friends who were fortunate to know him. His legacy is deeply felt by all who crossed his path, encapsulated by the words that can hardly do justice to the way he loved and lived: everything he said or did was special.
Preceding him in death are his cherished Parents, Guadalupe Leal Calderon and Inocencio Calderon; Maternal Grandparents, Maria Garza and Jose Leal; Paternal Grandparents, Panfila Cruz and Alejandro Calderon; and many beloved Aunts, Uncles, and extended Family members and Friends who await his arrival in Eternal Peace.
As we gather to remember Steven, let us celebrate the life of a gentle man whose heart was as vast as the sky. He leaves behind an irreplaceable void, yet his spirit continues to inspire love, laughter, and faith in all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
