Hazel Dalton

July 10, 1941 — February 14, 2021

Hazel V. Dalton- MS HT (ASCP) QIHC went home to be with the Lord on February 14, 2021 at the age of 79. She was born on July 10, 1941 in Granada, Mississippi.

Hazel retired from University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, (UTMDACC) in 2009 as an Assistant Professor Adjunct Faculty. She was the Director of the UTSHS Histology Program. She loved gardening and was very proud of her garden. Whenever you see a Monarch Butterfly fly by remember Hazel.

Hazel is preceded in death by her parents, Augustus Townes and Robbie Lee (Williams) Townes, sister, Pearl Felder, and Brother Samuel Townes.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Carroll Dalton of Seguin, Texas; daughters, Sonya Salahuddin (Bilal) of Houston, Texas and Iris Taylor (Channin) of Houston, Texas; beloved daughters, Angelica Roberts of Youngsville, Louisiana and Dorian Avery of Chino Valley, Arizona; her beloved son, Shawn Caldwell of Houston Texas; siblings, Augustus Townes of Birmingham, Alabama, George Townes of Chicago, Illinois, Bobby Townes of Springfield, Missouri and Jacquelyn McGee of Hayti, Missouri; her grandchildren, Jasmine Dalton of Atlanta, Georgia, Nija Dalton of Houston, Texas, Darnell Dalton of Houston, Texas and Terrence Jernigan Jr. of Houston, Texas as well as great grandchildren and numerous friends of the family.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make tax deductible donations to the Hazel Dalton Scholarship Fund.

A Memorial Gathering will be on Friday, March 12, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service to begin at 1:00 p.m. at Palmer Mortuary, the Memorial Service will be live-streamed from this obituary page, please visit Hazel's obituary on the day of the service and click on the link below under the services to open up video streaming. A Private Interment of Cremated Remains will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, the chapel has a limited capacity of 75 guests.

As per CDC protocols social distancing of 6 feet is required and all guests attending services at the funeral home are required to wear a face covering .
