Mary Peña

March 25, 1946 — August 20, 2021

Mary Lopez Peña was welcomed into the loving arms of Our Lord on Friday, August 20, 2021, at the blessed age of 75. She was born on March 25, 1946, in Hondo, Texas to Gregorio Lopez Sr. and Augustina (Lombraña) Lopez.

Mary moved to Geronimo with her family at a young age. She met and married the love of her life Frank Peña, and they were married for fifty-six wonderful years. Together, they raised three beautiful children whom she cherished.  Mary was a beautiful woman who took great pride in her appearance.

As she raised her children they were involved in many sports and Mary was their number one fan attending multiple baseball, tack meet's, softball, and football games to cheer them on.  She continued to be supportive of her grandchildren as well, attending their sporting events.

Mary was a devoted sister to her siblings.  She often would take on extra responsibilities or drop what she was doing to help her sisters and brothers especially in their time of need.  She tirelessly volunteered to care for her ailing parents and other family members.

Mary found great happiness spending time with her brothers, sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews at their many gatherings.

Frank and Mary took many family vacations taking their nieces and nephews with them.  She enjoyed traveling with her husband and her sisters to various casinos to play slots and cards.  Mary and her family frequently held regular card games and enjoyed visiting and being in each other’s company. Shopping was a favorite pastime and she enjoyed shopping with her sisters, daughter and daughter in law.

Mary had a strong work ethic.  She worked at Tip Top Tuxedo, Texas Instruments, she was co-owner of Super Taco in Seguin, and worked as the office manager for A-1 Quality Blueprint in Austin.  Keeping her home in immaculate condition was a source of pride.  Many days she was up before dawn to clean before she started her day.  She believed in being up early and ready for the day.

Words cannot express the sorrow and loss that we’re feeling.  We thank God for blessing us with such a wonderful wife, sister, aunt, grandmother and mother.  She was such a huge part of our family, the glue that held us together.  There was a lot of love in her life and we are so grateful for a lifetime of beautiful memories.  Even though she is gone her legacy will live on in all of us.  As we say farewell we look forward to the day we’ll see her again.

She is preceded in death by both her father and mother; her brothers, Gregorio Lopez, Jr. and Rogelio “Roy” Lopez and her in-laws, Manuel, and Antonia Peña.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband and best friend of 56 years of marriage, Frank Hernandez Peña; her children, Basil (Cathy) Peña, Donna Peña (Joaquin) Galvan, Eric (Melissa) Peña and, Brandy (BJ) Rangel; grandchildren, Whitney (Cody) Rice, Amber Peña (Erik Gallegos), Joshua Peña, Lexi Peña, Holly (Karlie) Kraft, Timothy Kraft, Jr., Antonia “Toni” Galvan, Taytum Rangel, Presley Rangel, Fatima Archuleta, Evan Peña, Lyndsey Peña, Braeden Peña, Garrett Peña; great-grandson, Mark Gallegos; her brothers and sisters, Josie (Ken) Thompson, Felix (Diane Lopez), Oralia (Simon) Gonzales, Esmeralda Karm, Lucy (Aniceto “Chunchi”) Luna as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
