Rodolfo "Rudy" Salazar, Sr.

March 27, 1938 — February 22, 2023

Rodolfo Rudy Salazar, Sr. of Seguin, Texas, peacefully entered eternal rest on Tuesday, February 22, 2023, at the age of 84. He was born to Ramon and Enriqueta Salazar on a farm in Zorn, Texas, on March 27, 1938. Rudy is preceded in death by his father, Ramon Salazar, Sr., and mother, Enriqueta Salazar, son Raphael Salazar, sister Pauline Rios and brother Enrique Salazar.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Beatriz Salazar; children Rodolfo Rudy Salazar, Jr. (Estella), Rosemary Rocha (Mario), Mario Salazar, Sr., and Jose Angel Salazar; grandchildren Rodolfo Rudy Salazar III, Jeremiah A. Salazar, Michelle and Nanette, Jose Luis Rocha, Marco Antonio Rocha, Lazaro Rocha, Marisol, Mario Salazar, Jr., Stephanie Salazar, and Samantha Guerra; great-grandchildren Brianna A. Salazar, Elijah R. Salazar, Elizabeth G. Salazar, Jacob Salazar, Rueben Guerra, Aliyah Guerra, Alexa Guerra, R.J. Guerra, and sister Virginia Salazar and brother Ramon Salazar, Jr., and a host of loved family and friends.

Rudy Salazar, Sr. followed in his father’s footsteps as a self-employed entrepreneur serving the community. He owned and operated several grocery stores and furniture and clothing outlets in Seguin and San Antonio. In addition, he received the Distinguished Sales Award for placing in the top three salesman category in the nation for the Levitz Furniture Company.

Rudy’s military career began when he enlisted in the Texas National Guard and culminated when he retired from the Texas State Guard. Rudy earned and received prestigious awards and recognition throughout his military career, serving in many leadership roles in honorable service to his country. Additionally, Rudy was an avid historian of the United States, emphasizing the history of the State of Texas. Rudy enjoyed participating in and involving the community through speaking, teaching, and learning events depicting historical military campaign reenactments about the State of Texas.

Visitation will be at Palmer Mortuary on Thursday, March 2, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The rendering of military honors will be presented by the DAV at 7:00 p.m. followed by a service officiated by Mr. Salazar's son, Rodolfo Salazar, Jr. All services will conclude in the chapel and a cremation will follow.
